Surprise immigration changes announced by the New Zealand Government yesterday will have a dramatic effect on migrants based in the Queenstown Lakes who want to apply for Skilled Migrant residency. The changes are in place from today. Now applicants must have 160 points to be eligible under the Skilled Migrant category. We often meet prospective applicants working as managers in hospitality and the accommodation sectors who have less than 140 points. It will be challenging for those people to stretch their points to 160.
The above changes are in addition to a temporary reduction that the Government has introduced to the numbers of applicants who are allowed to apply under the Parent Sponsorship category.
If you are unsure of the points you can claim or have any other immigration queries, we recommend you speak with Elliot or Helen to assess your position and to discuss your prospects under the new immigration rules.
